What is RSS?

RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication. RSS feeds are an easy and efficient way to receive notification when new information is available in a specific area of interest.

How Can I Benefit From RSS?

RSS feeds save time, allowing users to receive notification only when new content is available. Web site visitors choose the information they wish to subscribe to and can unsubscribe from any feed at any point.

How Do I Subscribe to RSS Feeds?

First you will need an RSS feed reader. There are a number of RSS readers available. RSS readers are simply programs that display the contents of an RSS feed in an easy-to-read format. Many of today's web browsers can also display and manage RSS feeds. Personalized homepages from Yahoo, Google and other providers also let users add RSS feeds. A short list is available at http://www.rss-specifications.com/rss-software.htm.

Once you have an RSS reader you simply click an RSS feed icon or link to the RSS feed. Most readers will auto detect the presense of an RSS feed on a website and you can choose to subscribe. Otherwise, you will need to copy the URL (usually ending in .xml) and paste it into your feed reader. For example, the RSS feed URL for our site is http://www.healthnewsreview.org/reviews.xml

If, when you click on an RSS link, your web browser displays the raw code of the feed, then that means that your web browser cannot display the feed in a readable way and you will have to manually copy and past the feed URL into a feed reader. It may also mean that the feed reader software isn't installed correctly.
